Behind Happy Faces is an mental health curriculum that was designed to give students the tools they need to address their mental health. The program uses educational videos and lesson plans to enhance emotional development. Five lessons help define mental health and break down the stigmas surrounding it; open doors for more vocabulary to discuss this issue with others; teach about effective coping; and learn ways to help friends who are experiencing mental health challenges. Each lesson includes videos, PowerPoint presentations, facilitation guides and handouts. You can access them by clicking on the individual lessons on the left side on this page.

How often do we discuss working out and eating a balanced diet? Our physical health is constantly on the forefront of our minds, woven into our conversations and splattered across our Pinterest boards. Mental health does not share the same spotlight.

Zeta Tau Alpha seeks to change that with the Behind Happy Faces curriculum. We provide five lessons to facilitate with your chapter to help members better understand mental health, learn coping skills, and be able to approach a friend who might need help.

“Behind Happy Faces will deepen the emotional bond in our chapters, urge women to seek help earlier and provide invaluable advice on how to support each other. Overall, this curriculum prompts our women to have conversations about a difficult topic that is often hidden. These conversations will ultimately save lives.-Carolyn Hof Carpenter, National President
