Lesson 3

Lesson 3 – Creating Effective Coping

Objectives:

  • State a definition of coping.
  • Differentiate the difference between effective and ineffective coping.
  • Demonstrate the steps to make coping more effective.

The Creating Effective Coping lesson teaches students a definition of coping, sources for how coping mechanisms develop, the differences between effective/ineffective coping and the amount of time it takes to create new coping behaviors.

People often do physical exercises to help strengthen their bodies. This lesson teaches students that building effective coping mechanisms helps strengthen their minds. Students learn about how neural pathways are formed and their importance in creating new behaviors. The main goal of the lesson is to teach students about the amount of time it takes for a person to learn new behaviors and how essential that is to create effective coping.
